Erdenetsetseg - member of the International Feltmakers Association - during one of our Mongolia day trip experiences

Felt, known in Mongolia as Tsagaan Alt or “white gold,” is made from sheep’s wool and has been used for centuries in a variety of practical ways. As one of the world’s oldest textiles, felt is created by matting, pressing, and condensing wool fibres—a process still widely used today.

In Mongolia, felt plays a vital role in everyday life, most recognisably as the thick insulating layers that cover a ger.

Our felting workshop offers a hands-on opportunity to experience this traditional craft firsthand—learning how raw wool is processed and transformed into beautiful, functional items.

The session is run in partnership with one of the local NGOs we support.
